NAGPUR: It is a lesser known fact that having the highest overall generation capacity and the highest thermal installed capacity among all the state power generation utilities across country, Mahagenco is the second largest electricity producing company after National Thermal Power Company (NTPC). The Nagpur For Kids (NFK) Club members are set to get a first-hand experience of how the company has been producing power besides the different models and auxiliaries used in the process.
TOI’s NFK Club has organized a visit to Mahagenco’s Khaparkheda thermal power station and a tour of its training centre at Koradi for the members on Sunday. NFK Club members will get a chance to know different methods of power generation as well.
The visit is being conducted in two phases. In the first phase, kids will be taken on a tour of the training centre. “In the first half, we will show how water and coal play a crucial role in generating electricity. The advanced training centre has numerous electrical equipment, auxiliaries, 15 models, simulators and professional trainers which will help the Club members understand how electricity reaches their home,” said Mahagenco spokesperson Yashwant Mohite.
He added, “It is very important for students know the importance of saving electricity. With this visit, we hope that they realize that generating electricity is easier said than done and pledge not to waste it.”
In the second phase, the members will tour the 210MW power generating unit at Khaparkheda. “Not many of us are aware that Khaperkheda thermal power station is the first 500MW project of Nagpur district. Apart from this, Mahagenco has already added 2,630MW through thermal projects completed at Bhusawal, Parli, Paras and solar projects at Sakri, Dhule and Chandrapur,’ Mohite informed.
