A twin bomb attack in a crowded market in central Baghdad killed at least 12 civilians and wounded 30 others Friday morning, Reuters reported.

According to Iraqi security sources, the attack targeted Bab al-Sharqi, a neighborhood with a large Shiite population. The first bomb exploded in a crowded market near a cart of clothing. A car bomb exploded shortly after, apparently targeting those aiding the victims of the first attack.

These bombings follow a series of attacks in the outskirts of Baghdad that killed 21 people on Thursday.

Daesh militants frequently attack civilians, particularly in Shiite areas of Baghdad. The group now controls approximately one-third of Baghdad.
