Blackburn Rovers have signed midfielder Jay Spearing from Bolton on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has played 23 times for Bolton this season but has struggled to nail down a place in the starting line-up since the arrival manager Neil Lennon in October.

Spearing becomes the second Bolton player to join Rovers on loan, after defender Alex Baptiste made the move to Ewood Park at the start of the season.

Spearing, a product of Liverpool’s Academy, played 30 times for the Anfield club before joining Bolton on loan in August 2012, with the deal being made permanent the following summer.

The midfielder will be ineligible to play in Rovers’ FA Cup fifth round tie against Stoke City, having featured for Bolton against his former club last weekend.
