Lathicharge on protesting SFI students

The west Division police resorted to mild lathicharge and detained over 60 members of Student’s Federation on India (SFI) on Friday, when they attempted to seize Vidhana Soudha to draw the attention of the State government demanding better facility in the education sector.

Around 1,000 members of SFI gathered at the railway station and marched to Freedom park to hold a protest. But the protestors deviated and entered the busy Sheshdripuram Road and disrupted traffic.

The police resorted to mild lathicharge and detained the students. In the meelee, Jyothi and Pooja, degree student from Hassan and Shankar, from Malur sustained head injuries and were admitted to private hospital.

The students have been taken to City Armed Reserve Grounds on Mysore Road for further procedure, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Labhuram said.

The protestors demanded immediate appointment of lecturers and increase in budget allocation for the education sector are among some of the demands.
