Mayor R. Lingappa has emphasised the need to convert the natural feeder canals supplying water to lakes and other water bodies into concrete storm water drains.
Speaking after inaugurating a stakeholder workshop on "Relevance of an Integrated Drainage and Climate Change Project for Mysuru City" on Friday, Mr Lingappa said extensive urbanisation in Mysuru has led to hurdles in the surface flow of rain water to the feeder canals.
Due to urbanisation, the amount of water flowing into the feeder canals had come down over a period of time. However, to ensure that water flowed smoothly in the feeder canals and reached the lakes and other water bodies, there was a need to convert the feeder canals into storm water drains, he said.
Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, Deputy Mayor Mahadevamma, Climate Change Adaptation specialist from Bangkok Saengroaj Srisawaskraisorn and others are participating in the workshop.
