CHANDIGARH: With a dip in the temperature since the past few days, two more cases of H1N1 have been confirmed in the city. This has taken the H1N1 count to six, including a resident of Karnal (Haryana) who died in the PGI on January 18. A 39-year-old woman belonging to Sector 19 was found positive for the virus on Thursday at PGI, and admitted to the institute on Sunday.
Another patient - a 47-year-old woman - admitted on Wednesday in the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, has also tested positive for the flu. According to health experts, she belongs to Pitampura in Delhi, and is presently staying at Dera Bassi. She left the hospital against medical advice on Wednesday.
"We have informed the Punjab health authorities to take the necessary action for her quarantine. The throat swabs of the two women have tested positive," said a health official at the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project here. Out of the six positives who were admitted in the city hospitals with the influenza, three are residents of Chandigarh. The city's first H1N1 flu patient was a 39-year-old woman - a resident of Sector 42. The case was confirmed on January 6 at a private hospital. On January 17, a resident doctor of PGI tested positive.
Health officials have cautioned against visiting crowded places. Doctors advise washing of hands regularly, and covering of mouth with a handkerchief while coughing or sneezing, as the virus is transmitted through the droplets.
