The Janata Dal (Secular) has issued whip to its members in the Hassan City Municipal Council to vote in favour of the no-confidence motion against the incumbent. The party had sought for a meeting to move the no-confidence motion against H.H. Srividya Anand, president of the City Municipal Council, which has notified that the meeting will be held on February 5.
Ms. Anand was elected member of the municipal council on a Janata Dal (S) ticket. However, she refused to honour the party’s directive to resign. Meanwhile, Ms. Anand and Sharadamma, another Janata Dal (S) member, are not at Hassan now. The Janata Dal (S) leaders have alleged that Ms. Anand and her husband had abducted Ms. Sharadamma, to which effect, a complaint has also been filed with the police. It is also suspected that the Congress might be behind Ms. Anand’s rebellion against the Janata Dal (S) leadership.
H.D. Kumaraswamy, State president of the Janata Dal (S) has issued the whip to party members. Notices have been stuck on the doors of the residences of Ms. Anand and Ms. Sharadamma in Hassan. The Congress has also decided to issue whip. Hassan district Congress Committee president B. Shivaram has said that the party will issue whip and oppose the Janata Dal (S).
In the 35-member municipal council, the Janata Dal (S) has 19 members, including Ms. Anand, the Congress has 10, the BJP three members and Independents three.
