Three held in engineer’s murder case

Three persons, including the gunner of the BSP MLA from Gorakhpur, were arrested on Thursday by the Barabanki police in connection with the murder of an engineer of National Informatics Centre (NIC) in Uttar Pradesh.

Block head Rajendar Kumar, gunner Toofani Ram and one Ram Singh have been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of 28-year-old NIC engineer Shikhar Srivastava, IG, Law and Order, A Satish Ganesh said.

Other accused -- BSP MLA from Gorakhpur’s Bansgaon Vijay Kumar and his wife Mridula Anand -- are absconding.

Shikhar’s body, bearing marks of sharp-edged weapons, was found at a secluded place in Barabanki district on January 20. His father Dinesh Chandra Srivastava, also the vice-president of Congress’ Bahraich district unit, in a police complaint had alleged that Shikhar had given Rs.3.50 lakh to Kumar’s wife Mridula after the latter promised him a better job.- PTI
