Meet Blind Image / Groove metal band
This Chennai-based band is a five-member squad.
The line-up comprises vocalist Luke, who’s a professional voiceover artist, model and actor. Drummer Krish has recently bagged three endorsements while bassist Siva has two. Guitarist Karun is the latest addition to the band, replacing former member S Chandramouli. Says Luke, “We have taken on two new guitar players recently, one of whom we haven’t announced and made public yet.” The band has a philosophical explanation for its name.
“Considering the nature of our music and our lyrical content, the name made perfect sense. By loose definition, an image is a projection in your mind. If you choose not to see it, you have chosen to be blind to it. We choose and thrive in exploring that which would rather be ignored by society, and the perfect canvas for our collective imagination is metal music,” says Luke. On their a-ha moment: Blind Image was formed in late 2006. “Our story so far has been one of many mini-successes and breakthroughs, in the face of many major setbacks. The one thing that stands out for us now is pulling off a multi-city tour of Australia, becoming the first Indian metal band to hit Australia. On their brand of music: Imagine monsters with musical instruments, singing about the horrors of humanity.
Blind Image’s first album Psychobabble was released in 2008. The second, a concept album, titled More Than Human was out the next year. “Our latest album has been in the works for about a year now. Long overdue yes, but we have left no stone unturned in making sure that all the material is fresh and cutting edge, which has led to a lot of rewrites and reworks. One song off the album was released as a soundtrack for a documentary film White Van Stories,” says Luke. Directed by Leena Manimekalai, it was a hard-hitting documentary on Human Rights in Sri Lanka. On their influences: They have ‘quite a few’ influences, different for different band members. A few that they recall are Devin Townsend, Pantera, Meshuggah and Megadeth. On their way forward: Says Luke, “We are focusing on releasing a lot more previously unreleased material this year, besides spanking new material with the new line-up.” Blind Image is also directing its combined energy a lot more on playing nationally in 2015.
On Luke’s iPod:
