GOTEBORG, Sweden– Scandinavian sales house LevelK has acquired Danish documentary feature “Motley’s Law,” about Kimberley Motley, a former Miss Wisconsin-turned-litigator in Afghanistan.

Doc is directed by Nicole Horanyi (“Au Pair”) and produced by Helle Faber (“Honour Killing: A Turkish Tragedy”) for Made in Copenhagen. LevelK will be selling “Motley’s Law” under its documentary label, which already includes “Drone” and “Sepideh.”

Now in post, the feature follows Motley, an ex-beauty queen brought up in Milwaukee who left her family back home and her career as a public defender, and ventured outside of the U.S. for the first time, to become a fearless lawyer in Afghanistan.

Doc also sheds light on the justice system and human rights situation in post-war Afghanistan.

As the first and only Western litigator in Afghanistan, Motley, who is half African-American and half North Korean, faces personal threats that are making it harder and harder for her to continue her work.

Doc is backed by the Danish Film Institute, DR Danish broadcast, MEDIA, TV channels YLE, SVT, VPRO, as well the Danish Foreign Ministry, NFTF and Cinereach Tribeca film festival, among other orgs.

Horanyi’s credits include “Au Pair,” which was nominated for a CPH: DOX award in 2011.
