SURAT: Different facilities like Intake well, Raw water treatment plant, three water distribution centers , seven overhead tanks and water sports phase II would be inaugurated and dedicated to the people on Friday in the city.
These projects worth Rs 88 crore and completed by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) are intended to increase the water supply capacity of the local body to attain 100 percent coverage and 24x7 water supply to all the citizens of the city.
These new facilities are located in Limbayat, Udhna and Varacha zone of the city and would benefit residents of Mota Varacha, Godadara, Unn, Vadod and parts of Bamroli . It will increase the water supply capacity in these areas. All these facilities would be inaugurated by city Mayor Niranjan Janjmera and Chairman of water supply committee.
Apart from these projects, SMC inaugurated the widening of Variyav Kahdi Bridge and Varacha Bridge on January 28. This widening of these key bridges is likely to ease the traffic issues of this area to great extent.
"Our aim is to cover 100 per cent city area with water supply network by the end of this financial year and we would achieve our targets." Said an official from water supply department of SMC.
