Mamata's promise of 10 lakh new jobs leaves her own officials baffled
Panagarh (West Bengal), Jan 29: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday promised 10 lakh new jobs for the youth in the state besides accusing the Centre of putting immense financial burden on the state. The dual claims have put her own government in a spot.
The gap between the dearness allowance between the central and state employees stands at over 40 per cent at the moment.
A section of the state employees has already expressed dissatisfaction over the Banerjee government's claims of funds shortage for the same government has been seen contributing lakhs of rupees for clubs and festivals.
Addressing the Mati Festival here on Wednesday, the chief minister said she earnestly wants the wages of the government employees to increase but the Centre's financial terms and conditions are depriving her state of development.
She, however, reiterated that her government's income has increased by much in the last four years and it was functioning very well.
While a section of Banerjee's administration questioned the basis of her claims of generating 10 lakh new jobs, the Opposition said she was misleading people.
West Bengal is due to go to the assembly election in 2016.
