75-year-old farmer arrested for sexually harassing minor girl in Tamil Nadu

SALEM: A 75-year-old farmer was arrested for sexually harassing a six-year-old girl near Attur in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
The girl was playing with her friends outside her house at Malliyakarai on Wednesday evening. At around 8 pm, her mother who had returned from a nearby grocery shop found her daughter missing.
She searched for her daughter in the neighbourhood and found a neighbour, P Muthusamy, trying to rape the minor girl.
The girl was rescued and sent to government hospital at Attur for treatment. Later, the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the Attur all women police against Muthusamy.
“Based on the girl’s parents’ complaint, we registered the case against the accused and arrested him,” the police said. Muthusamy had confessed to his crime, the police added.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
