VARANASI: US President Barrack Obama’s trusted friend Frank Islam on Wednesday hoped that Obama’s visit to India would see bilateral trade between the two countries galloping to $500 billion over the next five years. A native of Azamgarh, Frank said he wants to see an IT hub between Varanasi and Azamgarh.
“It is the beginning of a new era of Indo-US relationship after Obama’s visit to India on Republic Day.
The business between the two countries will hopefully touch the mark of $500 in the next five years,” said Frank in a brief chat with reporters in the city on Wednesday. The US will also help in India’s proposals for sanitation, make in India, clean India, and clean Ganga, he added.
Frank, who is an entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist and presently heads the FI Investment Group, is willing to see an IT hub between Varanasi and his home district Azamgarh. “I have mooted the idea of an IT hub with UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav during the dinner hosted for Prez Obama at Rashtrapati Bhawan,” he claimed.
He also appreciated the CM for his development oriented outlook.
Frank also expressed concern over terrorism and situation in Pakistan. “The democratic setup in Pakistan is facing serious threat from terrorism. Instead of providing safe haven to disturbing forces, Pakistan should develop cordial relationship with India,” he said.
He also visited Doshipura locality in the city where his younger brother Mushirul Islam and other relatives live. He met the local residents and his well-wishers. He will also go to Azamgarh on January 30 to meet his relatives.
Frank has been recently presented with the prestigious Martin Luther King Jr Award in the US in recognition of his contribution to the legacy of the great leader through his efforts in international service and civil engagement. Obama made him General Trustee of the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
