Sunanda Pushkar case: Tharoor’s ‘close friend’ Amar Singh questioned, Pushkar’s son is next on police list

During questioning, Singh was reportedly asked questions on Tharoor’s involvement in the IPL scandal and his alleged affair with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.

Sources said Singh was asked to narrate the sequence of events on the day Sunanda called him. According to sources, Singh told police that he had spoken to Pushkar two days before she died. He said during their conversation, Pushkar claimed to have taken the blame for Tharoor in the IPL case and had covered up for him.

“There is no point in hiding the truth. That does not mean that I do not wish well for Shashi Tharoor or I am accusing him of conspiracy. After all, he was my dear friend’s husband,” Singh told reporters. “Whatever I knew about Sunanda, I have told police. Now I will not say anything since the matter has been taken into cognizance by the SIT,” he said.

Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi said, “After Singh claimed that he was close to the Tharoors and that Pushkar had spoken to him a few days before she died, he was called for questioning. His statement has been recorded. Investigation in the matter is on.”

Since a case of murder was registered on January 1, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has questioned a number of people in this connection. They include Tharoor’s domestic helps, staff of the hotel where Pushkar was found dead, a family friend Sanjay Dewan, the hotel doctor, and Pushkar’s close friend and senior joiurnalist Nalini Singh.

The SIT is now preparing a set of questions for Pushkar’s son Menon, who will be questioned on Sunday. Menon will be asked about conversations with his mother during her last days and her relationship with Tharoor, police said.
