Indian sociologist Saraswathi Menon appointed panelist for UN peace actions

Indian sociologist Saraswathi Menon has been appointed as a panelist in order to review peace building activities by Secretary General of the UN.

A former lecturer at the Madras University, Ms. Menon, has extensive knowledge about women and development issues.

Saraswathi menon has also led the UN as the director of policy division for women, gender equality and empowerment of women. She has also been director of United Nation Development Programme at the Evaluation Office, while which she was posted in Mangolia and Nepal.

She has pursued a doctorate in sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi.

The seven member panel of the UN to review peace building is also known as "advisory group on the review of the peace-building architecture". It includes retired Pakistani major general, Anis Bajwa and French reviewer on panel of UN actions in Sri Lanka, Charles Petrie.

Secretary General Ban-ki-Moon formed the group at the request of the Presidents of the General Assembly and the Security Council.
