BNP leader jumps from roof to avoid detention

Straight out of a Bollywood film, a BNP leader jumped off a three story building in Chandpur on Thursday and was badly injured.

He was trying to evade a police raid at Shologhar, Chandpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Amir Jafar said.

Kazi Mohammad Ibrahim Jewel, 40, also the former district general secretary of the Chhatra Dal, is now under intensive medical care at Sadar Hospital under police protection.

Sadar Hospital’s resident medical officer said: “Jewel's waist is injured.”

During the BNP blockade, police has regularly raiding various locations at night, said SP Jafar.

“Jewel’s house has also been raided. Sensing our presence he ran to the roof and jumped off.”

So far police raided different places and arrested 13 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists from the area.
