AMRITSAR: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 41.3kg heroin, valued at around Rs 25 crore in the international market, from Amritsar following the arrest of smuggler Jagdeep Singh. DRI deputy director, Ludhiana zonal unit, Pradnyasheel Jumle informed here on Wednesday that the contraband was found in a car.
Jumle said that Jagdeep was arrested earlier too for smuggling of 13kg heroin in 2009, but had jumped parole.
Preliminary investigations revealed that narcotics were smuggled from India-Pakistan border in Tarn Taran district. "We seized the narcotics following ground surveillance based on a specific tip-off," said Jumle. He said that in October, the DRI had seized 40kg heroin near Ludhiana. A case under NDPS Act had been registered against Jagdeep said the deputy director.
