Job scheme implementation tardy, says KTR

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Panchayat Raj Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme in Telangana as the guaranteed 100 days of wage employment was not available to workers in some districts.

At a video conference with district Collectors, Mr. Rao was said to have reminded that Telangana was one of the States that had aggressively opposed restrictions on the implementation of the scheme in Parliament.

But Telangana was found wanting in ensuring that the fruits of the scheme were available to the targeted workers.

He was also sore that the Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs) did not take the responsibility of supervision of the scheme, though they were appointed as programme officers. The Collectors should hold review meetings with them every week.

He asked the Collectors to complete the distribution of social security pensions between February 10 and 15. Except in Nalgonda and Nizamabad, the pensions will be distributed by banks. The beneficiaries will be covered by post offices in the two districts, he said.
