A special mega flower show which began at the Malampuzha Garden on Tuesday marking the 60th anniversary of the tourism spot is drawing crowds.

More than eight lakh flowers, including exotic and rare ones, are on display at the show that will continue till February 28.

According to District Tourism Promotion Council and Irrigation Department officials, efforts are on to bring in five lakh more flowering plants from Mysore and Bangalore by February first week. Special art and cultural programmes will be held in the evenings.

District Collector K. Ramachandran said the show would help attract more visitors to Malampuzha, where a number of facilities, including rope-way, rock garden and boating, were winning the heart of visitors. Apart from visitors from across Kerala, a large number of tourists from Tamil Nadu were also thronging the garden. “We have planned the exhibition in such a way that it provided a rare experience to the visitors. The visitors will be treated to a riot of colours — green, scarlet, pink and violet, and a host of hybrid colours that mesmerise one and all.

There are more than 30 rare and exotic varieties which add colour to the event,’’ he said. Uninterrupted rows of bright flowers and artistically decorated vegetable carvings are on display.
