Four held for planning to make country-made bombs

Over 2 kg of chemicals seized

The police have arrested four persons and seized over 2 kg of chemicals used for making country-made bombs in their possession in a coconut grove at Bharathi Nagar in Ariyankuppam on Friday night.

The arrested were planning to make country-made bombs and use it on Gopi, a former constable of India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) and few others accused in the murder of AINRC functionary Velayudham.

According to police, acting on a tip-off that a gang was involved in making country-made bombs, a team arrested Anand (25) of Thananmpalayam, Periyasamy (31) of Odaiveli, Ashok Kumar (20) of Veeman Nagar and Shankar (33) of Ariyankuppam from a coconut grove and seized over 2 kgs of chemicals in their possession.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the accused were planning a revenge act to avenge the murder of Velayudham.

The four were produced before a local court here and remanded to custody in the Kalapet Central Prison. Meanwhile, the police have launched a search for the gang king pin Ramu of Thilaspet who is at large.
