Steven Rattner sermonizes on political corruption despite past

Steven Rattner was on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” the other day pontificating about political corruption as if he had never gotten into trouble himself for taking part in a kickback scheme to snag $150 million in pension funds.

This is the height of hypocrisy. The Columbia Journalism Review refers to Rattner as a “disgraced private equity mogul” and notes that he paid $16 million four years ago to settle SEC and New York lawsuits.

Rattner’s firm, Quadrangle, ponied up another $12 million and said what Rattner did was “inappropriate, wrong and unethical.”

One viewer who hasn’t forgotten that sordid story that landed New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi in jail was disgusted to see Rattner on MSNBC preaching about the Sheldon Silver scandal.

“They’ve got tax delinquent Al Sharpton on at 6 p.m. and Rattner on in the morning,” he said. “Too bad Bernie Madoff isn’t available.”
