AAP to send star campaigners to Sadar Bazaar, Krishna Nagar

Thursday afternoon will see Panag campaigning through Sadar Bazaar in a bike rally.

With their candidates in the Sadar Bazaar and Krishna Nagar seats now facing heavyweight opponents such as Congress’s Ajay Maken and BJP’s Kiran Bedi, the AAP is looking to intensify its campaign over the next 10 days in these two constituencies.

The last fortnight of campaigning will see the AAP’s star campaigners, actress Gul Panag and singer-composer Vishal Dadlani, doing the rounds of the two areas — one of which has a sitting MLA. In Sadar Bazaar, AAP’s Somdutt Sharma won the last election. In Krishna Nagar, the 2013 candidate Ishrat Ali Ansari — who has since been replaced — finished a distant second.

Senior leaders admitted that they had to prioritise their campaign in Sadar Bazaar once Maken was declared the candidate, but said they remained confident of retaining the seat. “Somdutt Sharma has been among the people. He is also a sportsman and a strong youth leader.

We are only augmenting the work done by him,” a senior leader said.

Thursday afternoon will see Panag campaigning through Sadar Bazaar in a bike rally. Dadlani had visited the area earlier this week.

Festive offer

“Jasraj Jassi, a popular Punjabi singer, will hold a jansabha on February 4. The last two hours of the campaign on February 5 will see MP Bhagwant Mann holding an event,” a senior leader said.

In Krishna Nagar, the AAP believes it can cause an upset against Bedi by banking on the fact that BJP leader Harsh Vardhan was not given a ticket. “Apart from this factor, our candidate S K Bagga is  known locally… The party is putting its best campaigners here as well,” the leader said. Thursday will see Dadlani address the audience.
