Dis‘Satis’fied with bus schedule at stn, civic chief orders changes
THANE: Immediate streamlining of Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) buses has been instructed by the civic chief, Sanjeev Jaiswal, after he visited the Satis at Thane station. Jaiswal visited Thane station area to understand the problems faced by the commuters, especially the ones boarding buses from the Satis deck. Apart from bus schedules, he has also directed his officials to clear the encroached space beneath the deck.
Lakhs of commuters are inconvenienced daily as TMT buses never operate as per schedule. One has to wait for atleast 15 minutes or more for buses to arrive while empty buses are often parked on the deck, lamented regular commuters.
The civic chief has reportedly asked officials to ensure that such buses are pressed into services and ensure optimal usage. Jaiswal also directed the staff to put up adequate signage to help commuters with bus route information of the over 50 services that operate from the deck.
“The transport system at the station is bad and needs improvement. I have been following up with the civic department to clear the hawkers from station as well as Gokhale road areas. The commissioner has assured of prompt action,” said corporator Sanjay Waghule.
“My immediate concern was to convenience the commuters using the railway station premises. I have directed the transport department to ensure they rework the bus schedules so that commuters on certain stretches don’t have to wait for long. Clearing the stretch of road underneath Satis of encroachments and illegal parking is also on my agenda,” said Jaiswal while speaking to TOI.
