Birbal sent to 11-day remand
AHMEDABAD: A metropolitan court on Wednesday sent Birbal Prasad to police remand till February 7 in connection with the murder of his ex-fiancee Vandana Prasad.
Vandana belonged to Veraval, while Birbal is from Raigarh in Maharashtra. Vandana was found murdered with knife wounds on January 14 near railway tracks in Usmanpura area, while Birbal was taken to hospital because he too had sustained stab injury in his abdomen.
Birbal first informed cops that a gang of boys made sexual advances, but when the girl resisted and he tried to intervene they attacked them. Later, Birbal is believed to have admitted before cops that he had killed Vandana. Cops also found a suicide note from Birbal in which he indicated that he would be committing a "shameful and heinous act". Police suspect that after killing Vandana, Birbal tried to commit suicide but did not succeed.
The case was probed by the Naranpura police in initial stage, but because there was no breakthrough in investigation the probe was transferred to the city crime branch.
However, the weapon used in murder could not be recovered during investigations. The accused also did not provide any information about it. The cops want to recover the weapon and hence they requested the court to grant custodial interrogation of Birbal. The cops also want to know whether Birbal had talked to the girl's father and what the conversation was about.
