As a preview to AKArt's 2015 trip to Cuba, excerpts from the Cuban opera Cubanacan: A Revolution of Forms-the first new Cuban opera in fifty years-will be performed at The 8th Floor on Thursday, January 29. Composer Roberto Valera, Tenor Bryan Lopez, and Soprano Barbara Llanes will be in New York from Havana for the first time for the performance. Enjoy a rare and special opportunity to join AKArt for an exciting and informative trip to Cuba. The week-timed to coincide with the opening of the 12th Habana Bienal-will be devoted to meeting and sharing ideas with Cuban artists, curators, and Havana's communities.

On the occasion of the Bienal, the contemporary art of Cuba, Latin America, Asia, and Africa will be fully displayed throughout the city-making this curated trip a unique global experience to view all of this work in one location. For collectors and art enthusiasts, the Habana Bienal is a good way to stay abreast of the developments in the visual arts in these regions. Havana comes alive during the first week of the Bienal, when many venues in the city open up for dynamic installations.

The week will be a citywide art event, with multiple venues opening each day, and artist studios open to you. Visits will take place in and around Havana, and will include a variety of cultural activities and substantive interactions with Cuban cultural experts, artists, musicians, and people from the community.
