BMW M135i facelift – first official photos surface

We recently saw the facelifted F20 BMW 1 Series range, and this is our first look at the hot M135i, which cuts… a pretty sedate figure for an M Performance model, if we may say so.

You can have it with three or five doors; only the latter is pictured here. Its two-door counterpart is of course the M235i, which surfaced in 2013. The full-M machine will be the M2 Coupe, which is expected to turn up later this year.

The M135i can be differentiated from the M Sport model by its separated twin tailpipes (M Sport’s twin tailpipes are bunched together on one side of the rear bumper) as well as its silver-painted wing mirror caps and bumper trims.

With the facelift, the M135i’s twin scroll-turbocharged and direct-injected 3.0 litre straight-six gets a small 6 hp boost to 326 hp, although the 450 Nm of twist is retained. Peak power arrives between 5,800 and 6,000 rpm; peak torque between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm.

The rear-wheel drive version gets from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds (six-speed manual) or 4.9 seconds (eight-speed auto) before topping out at 250 km/h. The xDrive all-wheel drive-equipped car only comes with the auto ‘box, and manages the century sprint in 4.7 seconds.

The front isn’t aggressive enough for some reason…but the engine lurking beneath it packs a punch in this sleeper car.

Probably because they want you to buy the M performance kit.

hatchbacks are just not meant to be RWD…
    the proportion is all wrong..

theres no leg space at the back for rear occupants…

    • RWD better than FWD. Your argument is invalid.

It’s not because of RWD that the proportion is wrong, BMW has always failed in designing cars their non-sedan/coupe cars.
