Kohima:
Nagaland governor PB Acharya has said the ongoing talks between the Centre and Naga rebel factions have to conclude in an amicable settlement for binging lasting peace in the state.
“The
state government will continue to pursue for an early solution to the Naga political problem to bring permanent peace to the state,” he said, while addressing the 66th Republic Day function in Kohima on Monday.
Terming Nagaland as an equal partner in the great
journey, he said the
Prime Minister’s visit to the state for the Hornbill Festival on December 1 and his promise to visit again highlighted the Centre’s importance for Nagaland and the northeast. On law and order, the
governor said incidents of violence and tension along the inter-state border with
Assam, particularly in the Ralan area of Wokha district, could be prevented due to timely intervention by the district administration and police in the disputed area belt and for meetings between the chief ministers, chief secretaries and commissioner of the two states.
The governor highlighted some of the achievements of the state. He said, “As we draw satisfaction from and take pride in our achievements, we have to commit ourselves to meeting the challenges with dedication”. He called the people of state to work towards realizing the vision for a better future. “The essence of our Republic is expressed democratically through the will of the people. ”
He termed the participation of the
President of USA in Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi as a new milestone in ties between the largest democracy and the most powerful democracy in the world.
