Boy knocked down

A 12-year-old student of Kendriya Vidyalaya- I at Malkapuram died after being knocked down by a private bus, here on Tuesday morning.

Tension prevailed for some time at the Malkapuram police station, as over 200 residents staged a dharna, demanding compensation for the family.

The SHO of the station had to intervene and pacify the crowd and they left only after some assurances were given.

The deceased was identified as Pedada Mahesh, son of Eswara Rao, a daily wage earner, and resident of Kranti Nagar, Malkapuram.

According to the police, the student was going to the school on his cycle around 8 a.m., when he was hit by the bus from behind. He was admitted to the naval hospital INS Kalyani with grievous injuries, but was declared brought dead.

The Malkapuram police station SHO P. Ranganadham, said that the bus was a private one under contract with the Indian Navy.

The driver was taken into custody and the police were investigating the case.
