Harbour Town closing for renovations

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Harbour Town Golf Links will get spruced up after the RBC Heritage, a PGA Tour event there in April.

The Sea Pines Resort said Tuesday the course would close for the summer season, starting in May, so tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens can be renovated.

The tee boxes, fairways and rough would be replaced with Celebration Bermuda grass. The greens at Harbour Town will be regrassed with TifEagle Bermuda, the same type that has been on the putting surfaces since 2001.

A new irrigation system will be installed to improve water management and control.

The project is expected to be finished and the course reopened in late September.

The RBC Heritage will be played April 16-19.
