MOHALI: The police have arrested three Ram Darbar residents for the brutal murder of an 18-year-old youth at his house in Phase IX on Saturday.
Police said Sunil Yadav, 24, Monu, 23 and Abid Khan, 27, killed Karandeep Dhiman as they feared he had identified one of them after they stormed the house of factory owner Harminder Singh to steal money. Yadav worked in the factory for last four months.
Yadav had studied the schedule of the family and hatched a robbery plan with his two accomplices when he came to know Singh had sold a plot for Rs 2 crore and kept the token money in the house. Yadav was aware that Singh would be in Ludhiana and Karandeep at his coaching classes in the evening on Saturday.
The three scaled a wall to gain entry at 7.40pm. They attacked Karandeep's grandmother Swatantra Devi, mother Meera and a one-and-a-half-year old baby. Both women were hit on their heads and locked themselves in a room. Meera had also made a call to Karan to warn him. The accused collected Rs 1.50 lakh, gold and silver jewellery and were walking out when Karandeep bumped into them. As Karan recognized Yadav, the three hit him with iron rods. Karandeep died of head injuries.
The accused were caught in two different CCTV cameras installed in private factories in the area. The police got a tip off from the footage that helped them crack the case. Police said they recovered Rs 53,000 along with gold and silver ornaments. All the three accused had a criminal background. The three would be produced before a court on Wednesday.
