‘Release honorarium to GP members’

They are not enthusiastic about development works: MLC

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Expressing displeasure over the delay in releasing honorarium to gram panchayat members in the district for the last one-and-a-half years, Raghu Achar, MLC, has appealed to district in-charge Minister H. Anjaneya to initiate action against officers responsible for this as the term of the existing members is about to end in the next few months.

Attitude

At a Karnataka Development Programme review meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Achar said that even after repeated appeals by gram panchayat members, the authorities had not taken steps to release the honorarium. “The members have lost the enthusiasm to take up development works owing to such an attitude of the officers,” he added.

Instruction

Mr. Anjaneya instructed Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer N. Manjushri to look into the matter and take steps to release the honorarium to the GP members by February-end.

As officers of various departments came late to the meeting by 30 minutes, the Minister made them stand outside the hall and come inside only to answer the questions raised by members. Though G.H. Tippareddy, MLA, made attempts to convince the Minister to call the officers into the meeting hall, he refused.

Drinking water supply

Mr. Anjaneya instructed the officers of the zilla panchayat engineering division to take steps to ensure that drinking water was supplied to rural areas. “As many parts of the district have not received ample rainfall in the last two years, the officers should make a list of villages with drinking water problem and take measures to solve it,” he added.

Commenting on the increasing illegal mining of iron ore from the forest areas of the district, Mr. Anjaneya instructed the officers of the Forest and Mines and Geology departments to conduct joint raids and initiate action against owners of trucks. He also warned of action against officers.

MLAs Raghu Murthy, B G Govindappa, Deputy Commissioner Srirangaiah, and Superintendent of Police M.N. Anucheth were present.
