Stress on unity for nation’s growth

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Minister for Forests and Transport, has stressed the need for unity to achieve the goals in growth and progress set by our nation.

Delivering his message at the 66th Republic Day celebrations organised by the district administration on Monday, Mr Radhakirshnan said the huge success of Run Kerala Run, the road show organised in the run-up to the 35th National Games was a clear pointer to what we could achieve through unity.

Mr Radhakrishnan said the nation could do wonders if the people worked in harmony and the future belonged to India.

The Minister also referred to scientific achievements made by the nation in the past and pointed out that we should build upon such achievements so that we would be able to contribute to the knowledge generation.

District Panchayat President Nirmala Jimmy; District Collector Ajith Kumar; Kottayam Municipal Chairman KRG Warrier; District police chief M P Dinesh, freedom fighters and others witnessed the ceremonial parade.

M.P. Babu, Reserve Inspector at the Armed Reserve Camp led the ceremonial parade.

Platoons of Armed Reserve Police, Women Police, Department of Excise, Department of forests and Wild Life, senior NCC (Girls) and (Boys), Junior NCC Platoons, Scouts and Guides and Student Police Cades participated in the ceremonial parade. Six band teams added colour to the parade.

Call to youngsters

PWD Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju has called upon youngsters to work for peace and development of the country against the challenges of the time.

Speaking after taking salute at the Republic Day parade here on Monday, he said democracy and secularism of the country were the strong pillars that made India stand apart from other countries.

However terrorism, violence against women and demand for formation of States in the name of languages had been posing challenges.

The young generation needed a strong will to fight against these challenges, he said.

Therambil Ramakrishnan MLA; Mayor Rajan Pallan; District Panchayat President C.C. Sreekumar; District Collector M.S. Jaya; District Police Superintendent N. Vijayakumar; City Police Commissioner Jacob Job; and others participated.

The police, forest, excise and armed forces, cadets of scouts and guilds, NCC, SPC, and Junior Red Cross participated in the parade.

Elected representatives and people from various socio-cultural fields participated in the Republic Rally conducted in the city.

‘Improve skills’

Labour Minister Shibu Baby John has stressed on the need to utilize the skills of the youth for the development of the nation.

Inaugurating the 66th Republic Day celebrations held at the Police Parade Ground here on Monday, Mr. John said that the citizens, especially the younger generations, were the great assets of the country.

The Minister also received salute and inspected the ceremonial parade of various platoons. District police chief K.K. Balachandran, Alappuzha municipal chairperson Mercy Diana Macido, Sub-Collector D. Balamurali and Additional District Magistrate T.R. Azad were among those who were present.
