NASHIK: After receiving lukewarm response from organizations on providing volunteers for the ensuing Kumbha mela, senior officials of the police commissionerate have decided to hold meetings with heads of various educational institutes to check of the possibility of getting such personnel from them.
City police chief Kulwant Kumar Sarangal said, “The response to the police department’s appeal for volunteers was not as expected.
Hence, we have decided to start contacting the heads of various educational institutes. The meetings with the educational institutes may begin this weekend or early next week.”
In July last year, the city police had appealed to the organizations which could provide more than 100 volunteers for the mega event to get in touch with them. While the police expected good response from the organizations, the reaction turned out to be the opposite.
The police are in need of volunteers in the age group of 18-50 years with good health. They should be able to speak in Hindi. Senior officials said they were looking for around 5,000 volunteers to assist them and preference would be given to those who are able to swim.
