NASHIK: The health department of the zilla parishad (ZP) launched the non-communicable disease programme on the occasion of Republic Day on Monday. The aim of the programme is to screen people of age group of 30 years and above for diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke (paralysis), cancer and heart attack at early stages and provide treatment accordingly.

Nashik is among the cities in the state such as Pune, Thane, Jalna, Ratnagiri and Nanded where the programme would be initiated. Rajendra Dusane, resident medical officer (outreach), said earlier the diseases were observed usually in people of the age group of 50 years and above. But in recent times, such diseases are found among younger population as well, he said.
“Non-communicable diseases are detected at late stages. The teams would screen the patients to facilitate early detection of diseases and provide treatment. India is about to become the diabetes capital of the world; hence, primary-level identification is required. Physicians present at every centre would suggest changes in diet, exercises and lifestyle to the patients. Besides, cancer patients would get the right treatment as well,” Dusane said.
