Gaya: Functioning of the
Magadh University headquarters was paralysed on Tuesday as a section of students and non-teaching employees of the university joined hands to lock the offices and departments of the university to register protest against the proposed establishment of
IIM on the
MU premises.
The students and employees alleged the transfer of 200 acre of university land will limit the future expansion prospects of the university.
The state government has zeroed in on MU land for establishment of the proposed IIM.
According to officiating registrar Kapildeo Singh, the agitators locked the administrative building, departments and held protest demonstrations. Though the
PG Teachers’ Association did not directly join the agitation, the teachers’ body extended moral support to the anti-IIM group. Making his stand known, the PG Teachers’ Association president BB Sharma said he welcomed the establishment of IIM in
Bodh Gaya but want it located elsewhere and not in MU.
The executive body of the Teachers’ Association will meet on Wednesday to fine tune its strategy, said the
PGTA chief.
