Unidentified persons broke into the house of a businessman at Yakutpura late on Monday night and decamped with 22 tolas of gold ornaments and Rs.10.70 lakh cash, the police said.

The businessman, Mohd Masiuddin Khan, along with his family was attending the marriage function of his son Riyazuddin at a function hall in Abids. They locked the house and left for the function in the evening.

The burglars came on the terrace of the two-storied building from an adjoining building. They broke the door bolt on the terrace, came down stairs and entered into the house. “The miscreants opened the door of the bedroom with the help of a key or some instrument. They then broke the lock of the cupboard, collected the valuables and left the place,” Sub Inspector of Rein Bazaar R. Srinivasa Reddy said.

Mr. Khan, who returned late in the night, noticed that his house was ransacked and informed the police. The Rein Bazaar police summoned a clues team and a dog squad. Other senior police officials visited the spot.
