NCR plunges to coldest temperature yet this season

On Tuesday morning, the temperature dropped to 18.1°C at the Science Garden in Quezon City, the lowest recorded temperature for Metro Manila so far since the cold Amihan season kicked in late last year.

However, this is still a far cry from the coldest temperature ever recorded at the Science Garden: in 1963, the temperature dropped to 14.9°C there. On the other hand, the highest recorded temperature on record at the station was 38.5°C in 1987.

For the Manila Port Area, available records show that the lowest recorded temperature in history was 14.5°C in 1914, while the highest was 38.6°C in the following year (1915). Readings from Cebu (a low of 19.8°C in 1997 and high of 37.0°C in 2010) and Davao (a low of 16.1°C in 1962 and high of 35.2°C in 1905) aren’t as extreme as in Manila.

According to PAGASA’s monthly temperature forecast, temperatures across the country are expected to stay at "near-normal" levels for the month of January 2015. — TJD, GMA News
