Suspecting the fidelity of his wife, a 34-year-old Gulf-returnee Bolla Lakshman hacked his wife Roja alias Swapna (30) to death and later committed suicide by hanging himself in Chandur village of Varni mandal of Nizamabad District on Monday.

According to Bodhan Deputy Ssuperintendent of Police P. Ram Kumar, the man Lakshman, had gone to Dubai a few years ago and came back recently. Since his return the couple used to quarrel on petty issues and a phone call to Swapna last evening was the last straw in their relationship.

Lakshman went out and on his return found his wife Swapna talking on her mobile phone and trying to hide it when the former arrived. Both got into a heated argument and when Swapna went to sleep, Lakshman hit her with an axe killing her on the spot. He committed suicide by hanging himself immediately after.

The Gulf expatriate, in fact, was scheduled to go back to Dubai on Tuesday. The couple are survived by two sons Nikhil (five) and Akhil (three). A pall of gloom descended on Chandur after the incident. Bodhan Circle Inspector Damodar Reddy visited the spot.
