Two years after she moved to India from Canada,
Priya Banerjee is finally living her dream in Bollywood. The actress has been in news for being cast in Sanjay Guptas upcoming action
suspense thriller Jazbaa, starring Aishwarya Rai, Shabana Azmi, Irrfan Khan and Anupam Kher and she admits being in awe of all the illustrious co-stars shell share the screen space with.
A Few days ago, I sat for a script reading with all of them and I found all that a tad too overwhelming. In fact, the way I was cast in the film was so quick that it still feels like a dream, says Priya, who has already acted in Telugu films like Kiss and Joru. The film is a court room drama which focuses on one woman's fight for justice. I am playing Shabana Azmis daughter and I have a key role in the film. The script is extremely interesting and I couldnt be happier that I get to work with such big names early in my career, she says.
While most part of this film is expected to be shot indoors, Priyas upcoming Telugu film Asura was a different experience altogether. Shes paired with Nara Rohit in the action drama and the team shot a few scenes in rural areas near Hyderabad.
Shyam Devabhaktuni, the director, didnt want to shoot the film inside a studio. So, we ended up shooting in several real locations which I didnt even know existed. It was all the more crazy with hundreds of people thronging to see the film shoot. As an actor, I dont get to see all that, while shooting on the sets. Its an interesting experience, Priya says, adding that shes playing a very traditional role. I played the role of a modern girl in both my previous Telugu films. And I loved draping a sari for my role as a village belle, she confesses.
