Revenue of Madurai Railway Division in the last nine months has gone up to Rs. 526.94 crore against the previous year’s actual earnings of Rs 386.11 crore.
Addressing the Republic Day function here on Monday, Madurai Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) A.K. Rastogi said in passenger traffic alone the division earned Rs 308.04 crore as against Rs 252.08 crore recorded in the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
He attributed the increase in revenue to opening of new sections, introduction of new trains, operation of special trains and augmentation of trains with additional coaches.
The DRM said the division recorded an originating loading of 1.68 million tonnes till Decemeber 2014 against the proportionate target of 1.47 million tonnes up to the said period.
The annual target for the year was two million tonnes, he added.
Mr Rastogi said the division spent around Rs 6 crore on providing passenger amenities.
Earlier, Mr Rastogi hoisted the Tricolour and accepted the guard of honour presented by Railway Protection Force, Scouts and Guides, and students of Railway Mixed Higher Secondary School.
Additional DRM R.V.B. Babu, Chief Medical Superintendent G. Sahoo and Senior Divisional Personnel Officer Chandrika Jayasankar were among those present.
