January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The YSR Congress Party on Monday requested Telangana Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary to disqualify its MLAs B. Madan Lal and Thati Venkateswarlu under anti-defection law following their defection to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

Submit letters

Leaders of YSRCP Telangana unit Y. Kishta Reddy and K. Shiva Kumar submitted separate letters to the Speaker seeking the disqualification of the two legislators elected on YSRCP tickets from Khammam district.

They explained that the two legislators’ defection to the TRS would attract the provisions of the anti-defection rule as they had voluntarily given up the primary membership of YSRCP and joined the TRS in the presence of ruling party leaders and the events were widely reported in the print and electronic media.

Mr. Madan Lal representing Wyra constituency had joined TRS in the presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is also the president of TRS, and secretary general of TRS K. Keshava Rao here on September 1 last year. Similarly, Mr. Venkateswarlu elected from Aswaraopet constituency joined the ruling party on January 9 in the presence of Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao, Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao and Khammam district TRS president D. Rajender.

Seek disqualification

They have also submitted copies newspaper reports and visuals aired in television channels in support of their demands for the legislators’ disqualification.
