Macau authorities and the central government are looking to further promote supplementary agreements signed under the Mainland and Macau Closer Economic Partnership (CEPA), Radio Macau reported.
Chief Executive Chui Sai On is heading a mission in Beijing aimed at discussing further cooperation with the mainland, particularly with neighboring regions in the Pearl River Delta.
In a meeting held at the Ministry of Commerce yesterday, both parties agreed on further promoting CEPA and its advantages among entrepreneurs. They believe this will help Macau diversify its economy.
Moreover, they hope to further cooperate in the area of Traditional Chinese Medicine, namely through the Guangdong-Macau Cooperation Industrial Park.
Beijing authorities say that traditional Chinese medicine is part of their plans and Macau is no exception. They believe traditional Chinese medicine could help Macau’s economy rely on other sectors, rather than remaining mainly dependent on gaming revenue.
In a meeting with the Chinese minister and the vice-minister of commerce, Chui Sai On also discussed the relations between Macau and the Portuguese-speaking countries. The Government Information Bureau said that both parties aim to take further advantage of Forum Macau (Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries), which will hold its fifth ministerial meeting next year.
