Increase in railway division revenue

The Salem Railway Division earned revenue of Rs. 466 crore in the first nine months of the current year (2014-15), which is 15.8 per cent higher than the corresponding period last year, said Shubhranshu, Divisional Railway Manager.

The passenger earnings increased by 18 per cent from Rs. 340 crore to Rs. 364 crore during this period, Mr. Shubhranshu said while speaking at the Republic Day celebrations organised by the Salem Railway Division here on Monday.

On average wagon turn round, during December 2014, a figure of 1.16 days was achieved by the division which is the best ever in the history of the Salem division. In the same month, 221 BOX N rakes were dispatched which again is the best ever performance by the division, he said.

On punctuality of express/passenger trains, he stated that the Division has improved the same to 93.5 per cent compared to 93 per cent last year. The division is striving hard to improve it further, he said.

Referring to the importance of keeping the railway stations neat and tidy, Mr. Shubhranshu said that special drives were launched in every railway premises in the Division, to create awareness among the public on keeping the station and other railway premises, including the coaches, clean.  

New or additional ticket booking counters have been provided in Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Karur and Salem.

On staff welfare front, the DRM said that selection calendar has been put in place to provide faster promotions to staff. A total of 24 employees were provided with a relief of Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 4.50 lakh paid to 173 wards of railway employees who secured more than 80 per cent marks in the examinations, from the Staff Benefit Fund, he added.

Earlier, Mr. Shubhranshu hoisted the National Flag after accepting the guard of honour at the march-past presented by RPF personnel.

A captivating dog show, valour show by the RPF commandants, and cultural programmes by students of Railway School also formed part of the celebrations.
