Mobile, Net on in Valley; sweets on LoC

R-Day celebrations remain peaceful across country except for 2 minor blasts in Assam.

With the exception of two reported cases of minor IED blasts in Assam, Republic Day celebrations were held peacefully Monday across the country as the states celebrated the military’s might and the cultural diversity of the nation.

The day was celebrated peacefully across the Kashmir valley amid heavy security deployment and shutdown. In the absence of an elected government, the tricolour was hoisted at Srinagar and district headquarters by officers of civil administration. Governor N N Vohra took the salute at the Maulana Azad stadium in Jammu with no untoward incident being reported from any part of the state.

For the first time since the Valley got mobile connectivity, cellular services and internet were not snapped by the government.
