Late last week, we brought you the story of how the 11 car companies changed the world of virtual racing with the now famous Vision Gran Turismo concept cars. The first was a stunner from AMG that previewed their brand new GT sportscar. And now it seems the French at Renault are also getting ready to preview the future of the Alpine brand.
Ahead of an imminent debut, the first two teaser photos of the Alpine’s Vision Gran Turismo virtual racer were revealed today. They seem to show a modern take on the classic Alpine A110 "Berlinette" which was in production from 1961 to 1977.
This is the 12th Vision Gran Turismo concept car and it will be one of the most spectacular yet. The silhouette of a Le Mans open prototype seems to be peaking out from the teaser, with strong shoulders and wind-swept profile.
To give you an idea of just how wild the concept car will be, we're also showing you patent images of the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo which were leaked online at the beginning of the month through French publication Automoto. An aero design is present, where the currents are channeled though large openings at the front and back of the car. It's totally unrealistic, since this shape would create lift, but the visual impact is huge.
Despite an initial delay, the Renault Alpine project is currently back on track, having left ex partners Caterham behind. Insider reports have suggested the upcoming production coupe will target the Porsche Cayman market, offering premium features and driver thrills, but balanced with a comfortable suspension setup. Look for it to show up at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
As for the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo, that will come out much sooner, maybe by the end of the month if we're really lucky.
