Governor Vajubhai R. Vala on Monday appealed to the people of the State to take a pledge to achieve ‘Swachch Bharat’ through ‘Swachch Karnataka’ to ensure clean streets, roads and localities.
In his maiden address to the State after hoisting the tri-colour to mark the 66th Republic Day at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground here, the Governor lauded a few programmes of the State Centre said “we should follow ‘each one to teach one’ policy to ensure deprived children get education”.
For eliminating poverty, the Governor said “poverty could be eradicated if an affluent family can adopt a poor family and take up the responsibility of their upliftment”.
In his 8-page address in Hindi, Mr. Vala said the State government’s efforts have accomplished remarkable progress in al fields. “Infant mortality rate in the State has also been brought down, the State is wiping out malnutrition among children and has implemented drinking water projects in drought-probe villages which are commendable,” he said.
Noting some of the renowned institutions such as ISRO, HAL, and BEL in the State, Mr. Vala said ISRO scientists achieved success in their Mars Mission project in the first attempt itself.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and several other dignitaries attended the programme.
