David Trezeguet considers Juventus role after confirming retirement

David Trezeguet has confirmed in L'Equipe he has decided to end his playing career and will now likely return to Juventus as a club ambassador.

Trezeguet won two league titles at both Serie A giants Juve and French side Monaco over the course of his 22-year club career, while he was also part of the France squads that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

The 37-year-old last played for FC Pune City in the Indian Super League before Christmas, and reports in South America last week suggested he was preparing to end a career that started at Argentine club Platense in 1993 despite an offer from Serie B side Modena.

However the striker, who was born in the Normandy city of Rouen while his Argentina-born father played there, revealed his plan had always been to hang up his boots in 2015.

"Even before I went to play in India, I had the idea of moving on to do something else," he said. "It's time for me to start a new adventure, off the pitch. I have several options. Big clubs have contacted me to work with them."

Trezeguet's most likely destination will be Turin, where he became Juve's all-time leading foreign goal-scorer in a decade with the Bianconeri following his transfer from Monaco in 2000.

"We have a strong relationship, Juve and I, even after I left in 2010," he said. "I am still regularly in contact with people at the club. I would like to be part of the current project. Historically, Juve are a very ambitious club. I will be in Turin on Wednesday to meet club officials.

"The idea would be for me to participate in the promotion of the club's image across the world. It's planned for me to accompany Andrea Agnelli on a business trip to Japan in early February. Juve are very popular there. It will be a way for us to get to know each other in a different context."
