NASHIK: The Maharshtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is planning to enhance the water filtration capacity of its Melgaon-based plant to meet the additional requirement.
Accordingly, the MIDC has already floated a tender for enhancing the capacity from present 18 million litres per day (MLD) to 24 MLD at a cost of Rs 4.61 crore.
Speaking to TOI, an MIDC official said, “We provide water to Malegaon industrial estates of the MIDC in Sinnar from Valdevi weir through the water filtration plant.
The present requirement of Malegaon MIDC areas is close from 16-18 MLD and the water filtration plant is of the same capacity. But power failure some times causes shortage as we are unable to treat 18 MLD water. Moreover, we will require more water in future to meet the demand. Hence, we have decided to enhance the filtration capacity by 6 MLD.”
“We have already started the process by floating a tender, which will be completed in the next two months. The project, which is estimated to cost at Rs 4.61 crore, is expected to be completed in the next one-and-a-half years,” he added.
Close to 1,000 industrial units operate in Malegaon industrial estate in Sinnar, around 25 km from here. There are two industrial estates of the MIDC in the city — Satpur and Ambad — with around 3,500 micro, small, medium and large industrial units. The MIDC has been supplying 23 MLD water to the industries in Satpur and Ambad. Around 12 MLD goes to Satpur, while the remaining 11 MLD is supplied to Ambad industrial estate.
The MIDC charges Rs 18 per thousand litres from the industries.
