CRPF jawan does sting operation to expose senior

A CRPF jawan, who was being forced to work as a cook in his senior's house, took the sting operation route to expose his miseries to the world.

Eknath Patil, who joined the force in 2003 as a cook, was taken from the camp by DIG Gopal Lal Meena to his house for household chores. Meena was stationed at CRPF's Taloja camp in Navi Mumbai. As though that wasn't enough embarrassment, Patil was at the receiving end of the DIG's wife's taunts and comments. Meena's wife hurled abuses at the jawan even at the slightest mistake.

"Even animals are not treated as badly as I and nine of my colleagues were treated by the DIG and his wife," the jawan said.

In a four-minute video which was aired on a local news channel, the DIG's wife is seen screaming at Patil for a minor mistake. "I don't know from where they have brought these donkeys," she says in the video.

Explaining his ordeal, Patil said: "I did not join the CRPF to work as a maid. I am being asked to work for my seniors when I should be working for the country. I took the sting operation as I wanted to show the world what I was going through and prevent similar situations in future. I do not want to become a hero."

Patil admitted that unable to bear the harassment, he had also contemplated suicide. "My wife Kavita asked me not to give up and fight against the ill-treatment," he added. The jawan said that even the DIG hurled abuses at him. "If his wife complained to the DIG about something, he would hurl abuses at us. The whole ordeal was beyond imagination," Patil said.

Meanwhile, reacting to the video, DIG Meena said: "If there are guests at home, we can take the help of jawans." However, the DIG said no jawan was working at his residence.
